Beautiful Spring weather here in northern Indiana! We got another light dusting of snow on Thursday, but most of it is now gone thanks to the 50 degrees and sunshine yesterday. The forecast has some upper 60s in it for this week.
On Saturday, I almost felt like I was in the wood industry. I still burn firewood, and I like to cut, split, and stack my next year’s supply in the springtime. I had a few big logs to cut up, and it took a while with my 20” bar on my Stihl saw. I then cut down part of a maple tree and processed that as well. I was a bit frustrated as my chain seemed dull and tried to use the other smaller saw but the chain just came off. I tried to put a new chain on but couldn’t get it on with the way the bar is configured (16” Echo). Local small engine shop, here I come!
I thought I was still okay to do hard physical labor, but by Sunday, I felt like I had been run over by a truck! I was sore all over—should’ve taken a cold shower to relieve the sore muscles! We had a day of rest and got the flag croquet set out in the afternoon. Our house is on a hill, so it made for an interesting course.
This issue is being mailed first class to all subscribers and to all Bright Star permanent numbers. You should receive this issue no later than March 19 or 20. We will likely maintain a first-class list for some of the more remote areas moving forward. I appreciate all the calls letting me know the status of your magazine delivery. The January 31 mailing was the worst delivery issue to date, and I have no idea what caused it. I also appreciate the patience when you called to let me know you didn’t get it. You probably felt like yelling, but you all stayed calm and explained the situation. For that, I say thank you.
This issue has some really high-quality sawmill equipment at auction. Excited to see what the auction prices will be on late-model, well-maintained equipment. Also excited about the lumber auctions. The first one was deemed a success, with two more auctions scheduled and positive feedback from both the seller and the buyers.
Also picked up a few more lumber reporters! Thanks a bunch! Seems like 6 quarter is not as common, as I have no one reporting on that size. So if you’re cutting 6 quarter, I could use your help. Got to add in the price for Walnut, which is exciting!
We also have another new author who has committed to writing an article once a month. His name is Todd Wilson, and he lives here in Milford, IN. His company is called Family Man Ministries. He does a lot of public speaking, has written a few books, hosts a weekly podcast, has raised and homeschooled eight children, and has a passion for helping dads fill the role they signed up for when they got married. His slogan is, “You da Dad!” I have his inspiring daily calendar, and I enjoy it! Looking forward to posting his articles in EquipmentEdge.
Our goat had twins this weekend. Our eight-year-old daughter spent most of the weekend in the barn. The babies are officially named Faith and Hope. It does a father’s heart good to see your child connecting with animals and spending time in the great outdoors. It’s a good time to have small animals, especially laying hens!
Gaylord is taking a vacation in Florida for two weeks, acting like a snowbird, I guess. If he doesn’t answer the phone, leave him a message. He’s probably soaking up the sun with a cold one (Pepsi, that is).
Until next time,
